God, I want a Defender.
The truck version is $43K and the two door is $80K....wow. Guess it’s still Jeep for me. I did look really, really hard at a new Taco, but it wouldn’t fit in my driveway. Regardless, I think offroad is my future with maybe a Miata in a year or two.

Defenders in North America are like public transport in North America
Expensive, old, and rare to see .

You can save a lot of money with an old-Disco:
(note: savings may not include maintenance costs)
Really though, the 5-door Discovery II looks a lot better than the older 3-door:
(note: IIRC, the Disco II was even less reliable? Maybe just more expensive to fix when it breaks?)

Have you thought about contacting an exporter in the U.K. and getting one direct, most have LHD and RHD vehicles.
There are many exporters geared up solely for exporting Land Rovers to North America and can do everything.

I’d do ... things ... for a Defender 90. Really want one, but definitely couldn’t justify the cost of one.

As a former Defender owner (1992 200tdi 110 2 door; 2003 TD5 dual cab 110 ) ...I suspect your want is not driven by practical experience.
The only circumstance that I would ever consider owning one again is where the vehicle would be used exclusively off road and at low speed. Certainly not as an urban or extra urban daily driver cum occasional off roader.

What was your experience with maintenance and reliability?

That’d be cool, but as a DD probably not a great idea. Also, I have a project/fun car already in my Ram

My experience wasn’t what you read on the internet. They were fine. They did break but mostly due to human error or just simple wearing out . They did have quirks too but that's what makes them great.

They aren’t ideal as a daily driver but the guy down the road dailies his D90.
But if you had a Spectre Edition, you’d daily the legs off it.
or ex-Australian forces Perentie.
or a Line X

I think you might of mentioned that somewhere before. Lol.
But if you lived here, you’d probably want to daily the Holden Ute,
and weekend the Defender and take it Green laning.

Hmm... are you trying to make me want to move more? Though Australia is quite tempting too...
